Former Mountaineer Pass Rusher to Leave WVU for Syracuse
Former Mountaineer James Heard Jr. is leaving WVU and the Big 12 to join Syracuse. The pass rusher posted his commitment to Syracuse late Sunday night.
Considered one of the best young pass rushers by the West Virginia coaching staff, Heard’s departure will force the Mountaineers to change course on their 2024 plans.

WVU coaches were open about trying preserve Heard’s eligibility by having him only appear in a handful of games in 2023. He was going to receive more playing time moving forward, but obviously that’s not going to happen in Morgantown now.
Heard picked West Virginia over several major programs out of high school.
