MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On the heels of back-to-back road conference wins, WVU was hoping the return of Garrett Greene would ignite their offense and lead to a victory in front of the home fans. While that didn’t happen, how Greene fared in his return became the story in addition to the outcome.

“I love the kid because he competes. Heโ€™s an explosive runner and he threw the ball well at times, but then he missed a couple short ones that wouldโ€™ve gotten us some first downs or third and manageable. I thought he gave us a chance,” said West Virginia head coach Neal Brown after the game.

Greene evaluated his performance in his first game back in about a month as โ€œokay but not good enough to win.โ€ He completed 19-of-39 passes for 237 yards and then ran for 129 more, all while scoring four total touchdowns.

He also credited the Baylor defensive coaching staff for making adjustments that caused the WVU offense to struggle in the second half.

And as far as the offense as a whole, Brown offered a mix of feeling some things improved as other mistakes popped up.

“Offensively, I think we did some really good things. Those stats look good. We were balanced, but we didnโ€™t get it done in winning time,” said Brown.

“We had multiple fourth downs there in the third quarter when the game was a seven-point game, and it was a seven-point game for maybe three or four possessions. I havenโ€™t seen the drive chart. We just didnโ€™t do a good enough job on third and fourth down and so thatโ€™s disappointing.”

All Brown, Greene and company can do now is try to get things corrected enough to win their last two games of the season, starting with the home finale against UCF.

For a related story, WVU fans voiced their disgust about West Virginia’s third straight home loss.
