Is it realistic that WVU could still win the Big XII?

he season for the WVU Men’s Basketball Team has been a lot like a roller coaster ride with extreme highs and lows.

Before the season began the excitement and press had the Mountaineers dethroning Kansas’s rein in the Big XII. After a trip to Germany and a lopsided loss, the high was at an extreme low.

Then a stretch of 15 straights wins brought heavy national attention and the programs highest ranking since the days of Jerry West. After climbing to #2 in the country, WVU lost five of its last seven at which point some fans threw in the towel.

WVU has had nights where they looked like an unbeatable National Championship contender, while other nights they looked like a team that couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean. Looking at the Big XII conference in most years losing five of seven with four of those in conference would mean the Mountaineers are just hoping to make the conference tournament.

The Big XII conference is so strong from top to bottom it’s still an open race. This year, WVU is tied for 2nd in the conference and after last nights win over the Oklahoma Sooners on the road, still has seven regular season games to go. Four games are at home and three will be on the road.

One of those away games sees West Virginia going to Allen Field-house to take on Kansas who has already lost three homes games for the first time in 19 years. WVU has been the pick to dethrone Kansas the last two season, with a strong finish there is still a strong possibility of this becoming a reality.
