Javon Small Earns National Player of the Week Honor

WVU basketball point guard Javon Small continued to rack up accolades this week as he was named the Oscar Robertson Trophy National Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Small was honored alongside Auburn Johni Broome, Louisville’s Chucky Hepburn, Memphis’s Tyrese Hunter and Purdue’s Trey Kaufman-Renn.

Already this week, Small was named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week and to the Battle 4 Atlantis All-Tournament team.

Small had star performances as the Mountaineers picked up a pair of impressive ranked wins last week over No. 3 Gonzagaย andย No. 24 Arizona. WVU also took tournament runner-up Louisville down to the wire as the Mountaineers went into overtime in all three tournament games.

Javon Small carried the load for the Mountaineers, playing 43 minutes in all three overtime games in the Bahamas. He averaged 23.7 points per game with 17 rebounds, 17 assists and six steals. He scored 31 points in the teamโ€™s upset win over Gonzaga on Wednesday. He scored 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Louisville and then 14 points and eight assists against Arizona.

WVU basketball has the week off before returning home to host Georgetown in the WVU Coliseum on Friday.
