The Mountaineers brought veteran kicker Kade Hensley in via the transfer portal following the spring practice period.
That likely indicates that none of their kickers already on the roster managed to establish themselves as ready for the starting job, placing Hensley on the inside track to start.
The redshirt senior spent the first four seasons of his college career at Coastal Carolina, earning major playing time in each of the last three years. He converted on 84.2 percent of field goal tries but nailed every single extra point in 2024.

Last year: Hensley enjoyed his third straight season as the Chanticleers’ go-to kicker, putting together his best statistical season with 93 points scored.
Stats: Hensley converted 16-of-19 field goal tries with two misses under 40 yards. He’s missed just one PAT in his career and thus has incredible consistency even without a rocket leg.
Camp outlook: After none of the other kickers managed to establish themselves during spring practices, head coach Rich Rodriguez turned to the transfer portal to acquire Hensley.
Projected role: He’s likely in line to start.
Accolades, highlights: Kohl’s Kicking, a developmental showcase for kickers and punters, ranked Hensley as the No. 11 kicker in the class of 2021.
