Morgantown, WV – After a long, rainy night in Morgantown, one thing became apparent: the Mountaineers have a star in the making at running back.

True freshman running back Leddie Brown bursted onto the scene during West Virfinia’s 52-17 victory over Youngstown State, tallying 115 yards on the ground on 15 carries.

“He’s pretty impressive for a freshman, I really love what I see after his yards after contact, you guys see it. He runs hard, he’s going to be a beast of a running back. To see him get 115 yards, it’s to no surprise to anyone in the facility, but it’s about time we got to showcase what Leddie Brown is all about.” offensive coordinator Jake Spavital said.

Brown showed his physicality early and often, bouncing off of would-be tacklers and carrying defenders for extra yardage. He also had a 39 yard touchdown run up the middle before it was called back on a holding penalty. That would have been his first collegiate touchdown, but it didn’t take him much longer to find pay dirt.

A few plays later, he powered his way in from two yards out for his first rushing score.

The run game collectively did a great job, but Brown may have created some separation between he and the other backs.

West Virginia will certainly continue the four-man rotation at the position – granted Alec Sinkfield is healthy – so don’t expect him to become a featured back anytime soon.

But it will prove difficult to limit Brown’s carries moving forward.
