Lee Kpogba Still Remembers What BYU QB Kedon Slovis Said About West Virginia

Kedon Slovis with Pitt against WVU

On paper, WVU vs. BYU may seem just like any other game. The Mountaineers and Cougars have only met one other time in the long histories of both football programs. But at least one West Virginia player doesn’t view this matchup like it’s just any other game.

Linebacker Lee Kpogba is well aware who BYU’s quarterback is. He’s also well aware what Kedon Slovis once said.

For those who may need a refresher, Slovis yelled out “F***, West Virginia!” during a pep rally leading up to the 2022 Backyard Brawl, which was Slovis’ debut game with Pitt last season.

When Kpogba was if he still has what Slovis said on his mind before facing him again again this week, he smiled really big and admitted he gets tagged in videos of it all the time and it’s tough to forget. Kpogba then agreed Slovis being under center does make playing BYU a bit different than if they were being led by someone else.

Despite an overall roller coaster of a season for Slovis at Pitt, he did lead the Panthers to a win over WVU on a record setting night at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium that gave new life to the Brawl and kicked off the 2022 season. And while Kpogba and West Virginia did get revenge against their rival up north earlier this season, Slovis wasn’t on the field when the Mountaineers won the 2023 Backyard Brawl.

With Slovis now at BYU, and actually in the midst of a solid season, this game against the Cougars is Kpogba and his team’s chance to gain some retribution against Slovis himself.
