Former West Virginia slugger Ryan McBroom has been recalled to the majors by the Kansas City Royals, the team announced Tuesday.

McBroom originally broke camp with the Royals as a member of their Opening Day roster last month but got just five plate appearances in three games before being sent down to the alternate training site. This is McBroom’s third season in the majors with KC. He is not in the starting lineup tonight as the Royals being a two-game road series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Last season, McBroom played in a career-high 36 games with 81 at-bats. He hit .247 with six home runs and 10 RBI. He also hit three doubles and scored eight runs. McBroom hit .289 with 20 career home runs in two seasons with WVU in 2013-14. He was drafted after each of his two college seasons, in the 36th round in 2013 and finally signing with the Blue Jays after 2014.
