Now that the 2019 recruiting cycle has come and gone, the West Virginia coaching staff has turned their collective attention towards the future.

This time, assistant coach Chad Scott is looking three years down the road, offering 2022 Shelby (NC) linebacker Malaki Hamrick.

“First of all, it’s a huge blessing for me. I’m excited, and hopefully, I get to visit West Virginia some day,” Hamrick told DubVNation.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound backer holds an offer from Coastal Carolina as well as the Mountaineers and had good things to say about the possibility of playing in the Big 12.

“The Big 12 is a very competitive conference and that means I would be playing against some of the top talent in the nation, so that is something to look forward to.”

Hamrick stated that North Carolina, Tennessee and Clemson were at the top of his list, but that West Virginia could join the mix in the future.

As for now, the North Carolina product is focused on developing his game, becoming a better athlete and improving his football intelligence.

When it does come time to make a decision, however, Hamrick knows what he will be looking for.

“Where I place on the depth chart, a family feeling and I place where I can grow and develop not only as an athlete, but as a man.”
