Neal Brown Awarded Coach of Week By Major Outlet in Midst of Criticism
In an ironic development based on the mood of the WVU fanbase, Neal Brown has been awarded Coach of the Week by a major outlet. As they do every week, CBS Sports/247 Sports revealed their Coach of the Week winners, picking Brown to represent the Big 12 for Week 9.
While West Virginia traveling all the way to Arizona and beating the Wildcats 31-26 to snap a losing streak makes a solid case for the honor, the title also comes as billboards pop up around Morgantown as fans voice their desire for Brown to be fired.

But even in the midst of criticism, Brown praised his team’s character after the game.
โOver 2,000 miles traveled after a really tough stretch and our guysโ backs against the wall. A lot of negativity, a lot of adversity, we come out here without three of our four captains, three of our four captains donโt make the trip, but we come and just fight. And I think itโs a credit to our guys. Yโall have heard me talk about the character of our team. Our character of our team is really good,โ said Brown.
โWe wanted to be better than 2-2, but we went 2-2, and now it sets us up for a November stretch. We need some time to heal up, we got to get away and rest and recover for a few days, but then we get back, and that November stretch is going to be critical. How we finish is going to really matter. Weโve got to continue to win, stay in the conference race, I think thatโs the big picture of it.โ
WVU HC Neal Brown Fired Up in Support of Team After Win at Arizona
WVU fans may have failed at flying their message over Milan Puskar Stadium, but all anyone will have to do is simply drive around town to know what Mountaineer Nation thinks of Neal Brown.
There are billboards running a โFire Neal Brownโ message around Morgantown. This ad will apparently run throughout the next month.
Itโs no secret there are plenty of WVU fans who want Brown fired. However, itโs one thing to voice displeasure on social media, but itโs another to actually put your money where your mouth is on the topic. And now this ad on billboards can be added to a website dedicated to the goal of pressuring WVU to remove Brown.
WVU fans started a website โFireNealBrown.orgโ dedicated to removing Brown as head coach.
The site features Brownโs record and negative facts about his tenure at WVU while also allowing people to donate money to the Mountaineer Athletic Club with the hope it goes towards paying Brownโs buyout.
For a related story, WVU head coach Neal Brown was noncommittal when asked about his quarterback station heading into the bye week.
