FORT WORTH, Texas — WVU quarterback Garrett Greene wasn’t even supposed to play. The West Virginia starting quarterback didn’t practice on Wednesday and was expected to miss his second straight game against TCU on Saturday, until an injury to Nicco Marchiol in practice forced Greene back into the starting lineup.

Not only did he play, he starred, as Greene scored two touchdowns and ran for a team-high 80 yards to lead the Mountaineers to a 24-21 upset victory over the Horned Frogs.

Greene talked about his crazy practice week, the health of his ankle, how things worked for the WVU offense and how the team responded to multiple significant injuries throughout the game.

Even with Greene’s heroics, the WVU defense and special teams needed to come through, and they did in a big way, stopping the high-powered TCU offense cold in the second half. When the Horned Frogs did work their way into field goal range, defensive linemen Mike Lockhart and Sean Martin each blocked a field goal in the fourth quarter that could have tied the game.
