Amani Hansberry

WVU Basketball is set to host a second Illinois transfer this weekend with forward Amani Hansberry, as reported by Fox Illinois‘ Dante Furco.

Hansberry will join former Illini teammate Sencire Harris in Morgantown this weekend for visits as the two reunite with new WVU associate HC Chester Frazier.

Hansberry (6-foot-8) spent one season at Illinois, averaging 2.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in 19 games during his freshman year. Hansberry ended the season strong by scoring eight points vs. UConn in the Elite-8. In his limited time played, Hansberry shot 45% from the field and 30% from three.

Hansberry has a connection to Frazier and he is familiar with West Virginia. The Baltimore, Md. native was recruited under Bob Huggins’ staff back in 2022. Huggins watched Hansberry in person going into his senior year.

Hansberry has three years of eligibility remaining.

WVU has landed one transfer commitment with DeVries so far this offseason and has lost Josiah Harris (F), Seth Wilson (G), Patrick Suemnick (F), Kerr Kriisa (G), Jeremiah Bembry (G), Kobe Johnson (G) and Ali Ragab (C). WVU also has a high school commitment from former Drake signee KJ Tenner.
