Ross Hodge Details Challenge for WVU Basketball in Facing Kansas State’s P.J. Haggerty
WVU Basketball has another opportunity to extend its undefeated home record Tuesday against Kansas State. Head coach Ross Hodge spoke to the media to break down the upcoming matchup, along with the challenge in facing the Wildcats’ top scoring threat.
It’s impossible to discuss Kansas State without mentioning junior guard P.J. Haggerty, who leads the Big 12 in scoring at 23.4 points per game.
“He’s just a natural scorer. I mean, ย he has great touch in and around the paint. He has great balance. He’s got a tight handle. He, he has that feel to use your body against you and get you in bad positions and forces the officials to give him the whistle,” Hodge said Monday.
Hodge also emphasized offensive efficiency and slowing the game down against Kansas State, as the Wildcats are very successful when it comes to winning shootouts.
“I don’t think it’s to our benefit to get into like a up-and-down high-possession, high-scoring game with a team like Kansas State,” Hodge said. “I feel like that’s when they’re at their best. But we’ve also gotta be able to take advantages when we do have opportunities in transition.”
WVU basketball will host Kansas State at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
