Tyson Bagent Puts Skills on Display in Bears’ Preseason Finale

Earning another chance to put his skills on display, West Virginia native Tyson Bagent led the Chicago Bears to a victory in their preseason finale on Saturday night.

Bagent completed every pass except one, going 16-for-17 for 208 yards passing. He threw two touchdown passes and posted a 156.9 quarterback rating overall. Bagent also ran for 21 yards.

Bagent’s performance in Chicago’s third preseason game comes after not appearing the week prior and also playing well, granted not as well, in the preseason opener. He was 13-for-22 for 169 yards with a touchdown pass and one interception in the Bears’ 34-10 win over the Cleveland Browns.

The Martinsburg and Shepherd University product inked a two-year, $10 million contract extension with the Bears on August 10th of last year. Chicago wanted to retain Bagent as top backup option behind Caleb Williams due to his success when under center in his three years in the NFL.

Bagent, 26, has appeared in 12 games across three seasons, starting four and going 2-2. He’s completed 66.4% of his passes for 917 yards through the air and another 109 on the ground.

Even though Bagent didn’t garner much attention after wrapping up his college career a Shepherd University, his college statistics were too much to ignore for the NFL to not give him a chance.

In Division II, he threw for 4,580 yards in 2022 and exactly 5,000 yards passing in 2021. Bagent also completed 70% of his passes and tossed 41 touchdowns this past season, totaling 91 the last two years combined.
