It’s pretty common for the WVU football team to visited by celebrities and other notable figures during practice, but the one who stopped by on Tuesday was able to covey what being a Mountaineer means to him as well as anyone could.

Boston Celtics head coach and former WVU basketball player Joe Mazzulla took to Mountaineer Field to speak to Neal Brown’s team less than two weeks before they kickoff the 2023 season.

“And this emblem (patting the WV logo on his chest) has become a huge factor in my lief. It’s become an identity of who I am. I met my wife here. My kids were born here. And this emblem has taken a lot of who I am. And so it’s special. It’s important. It means a lot,” Mazzulla told the team about what WVU and West Virginia means to him.

Much like the 2023 WVU football team, Mazzulla will also be facing some pressure to perform this fall.

Joe Mazzulla was officially named the full-time head coach of the Celtics after taking over as the interim last season. He led Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, but the Celtics are now expecting another trip to the NBA Finals and their first championship since 2008.
