Mountaineers in the Pros
Watch: NBA Stars Copy Jevon Carter’s ‘When I Woke Up’ Answer After Big Games

NBA star Devin Booker threw out former Mountaineer Jevon Carter as part of his response after his big game on Wednesday night, and he wasn’t even the first big basketball name to do so recently.
“You want me to hit the Jevon Carter or KD? ‘When I woke up’?,” Booker asked with a smile on his face when speaking with reporters following his 51-point game in the win over the Bulls. The Phoenix Suns guard’s performance wasn’t even just about points, but also scoring with incredible efficiency. He was 20 for 25 field goal wise en route to the 51 points.

What Booker is referring to was when Carter offered the casual “when I woke up” answer when asked when he reached he “had it” during his breakout 36-point game with 12 assists against the Oklahoma City Thunder a few weeks ago.
Kevin Durant then stole Carter’s answer and used it as his own by giving the “when I wake up” reply to a question to him about when he knows he’s “in for a binge” and ready to go off in a game. Durant put up 45 just Monday night while leading the Nets to a win over Orlando.

Booker just a few days later couldn’t help himself, but to keep the “when I woke up” type answer going. It seems Carter is not only gaining respect among NBA circles for his solid season and play as a stater for the first time in his NBA career, but also earning attention for his postgame interviews as well.
Below is the original from Carter on November 9. As you can see, Carter also gave a bit more than Booker or Durant did as far as an entertaining chat with a reporter after a big game.
