WVU Football recruit Quintin Simmons

West Virginia is a finalist for Quintin Simmons Jr., a four-star level athlete in the 2025 class. Simmons included WVU among his top six when he announced his updated list on Monday.

West Virginia was one of the first schools to offer the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder from Cincinnati’s Withrow University High School. Along with his top six, Simmons— who plays receiver and running back— also has offers from schools such as Boston College, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.

Simmons is known for his speed and also uses it to compete in Track and Field for Withrow. Per MileSplit, Simmons ran a “sophomore best” 10.76 in the 100-meter and “also ran wind-aided 100-meter reps of 11.15 and 11.17 in Spring 2023,” as reported by Gabe Brooks of 247Sports.

Simmons’ speed helps him to be a factor in the kick return game. In fact, the first clip of his 2023 season highlight on HUDL is of him returning a kickoff for a touchdown.

An excerpt from an article written by BuckeyeHuddle.com last May reveals a heavy compliment paid to Simmons by his high school coach.

“Lofty comparisons have been thrown in Simmons’ direction by those around the program, the article reads. “Withrow head coach Kali Jones has even compared him to Ted Ginn Jr. because of his track speed and ability as a kick returner.

“Coach Jones compares me to a lot of people, but Ted Ginn Jr., I think that’s the kick return part,” Simmons explained. “I’m gonna return the ball. When the ball hits my hands, it’s going to the other side of the field.”
