Where Does WVU Women’s Basketball Star JJ Quinerly Rank on List of Top Players?
The hype for WVU women’s basketball star JJ Quinerly continues to intensify ahead of her senior season. A couple days after Quinerly made the cut to be on the Preseason Top-20 Watchlist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, a major network is placing her among the best as well.
ESPN included Quinerly as one of their top 25 players across all of women’s college basketball. While just sliding in at No. 25, Quinerly is one of three Big 12 players on ESPN’s top 25 list.
The preseason love for Quinerly increases the expectations around the Mountaineers as Mark Kellogg looks to take West Virginia to even greater heights after such an historic first year at the helm.
WVU opens the year with a preseason national ranking. West Virginia received a No. 16 ranking from the Associated Press.
Showing the strength of the conference, there are four teams ranked in the Preseason AP Top 25, with WVU actually owning the lowest rank of the group.
WVU earned 277 points in the poll. The four Big 12 teams to appear in the rankings included No. 8 Iowa State (521), No. 12 Baylor (422) and No. 13 Kansas State (390). In addition, TCU was listed as receiving votes.
Overall during the 2023-24 season, Quinerly averaged a career-high 19.8 points per game as a junior. She also recorded career-high totals in steals (97), assists (89), offensive rebounds (35), shooting percentage (46.2%), three-point percentage (34.4%), and free throw percentage (78.5%).
