WVU Football Officially Offers Son of Former NFL Pro Bowl LB

Lost in another poor performance by West Virginia in a big game was an offer to a recruit with notable last name. Late Saturday night, Lawrence “Jay” Timmons announced his visit led to receiving an official offer from the WVU football program.
The West Virginia staff has been building a relationship with the son of former NFL Pro Bowl linebacker Lawrence Timmons for months.
After a great conversation with @CoachBlaineStew Iโm blessed to receive my third D1 offer from @WVUfootball โผ๏ธ@Coach_TBell @Backendcoach12 @MorganKyleM22 @NealBrown_WVU @DAWGHZERECRUITS @Coach_LeDonne @RivalsFriedman pic.twitter.com/IFpsOssxNl

Even though Timmons, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound 2026 prospect with experience at cornerback, nickel and wide receiver, still has another season of high school football left at Western Pennsylvania powerhouse Pine Richland, he started to fully kickoff his recruitment this summer at football camps for recruits. One of those experiences was a day at WVU in June.
Timmons then offered some insight to WV Sports Now about what went on and his mindset at that time.
โWest Virginia, I got my 4.4 (40-yard dash). I felt like I did better in the individual drills because my hip flexor was feeling better. But the one-on-ones, I felt like I dominated as well. It’s just hard work that I feel is paying off.โ

The young Timmons also talked about his connection to WVU tight ends coach Blaine Stewart, who worked with the Steelers before returning to West Virginia and joining Neal Brown’s staff prior to the 2023 season, and how heโs helping to make him feel more wanted by West Virginia than Pitt.
โI feel like WVU is staying more in touch with me than Pitt. Like, Blaine Stewart. He’s staying real in touch with me and I’m supposed to — I talked to the head coach and I think I’m supposed to go back down there in July,” said Timmons.
Besides working out, what all did Timmons do at WVU?
“I got a tour after the WVU camp, and I got to talk to the head coach in his office and he told me he’s gonna get me down in July with my family. So that would be super fun. I really like the coaching staff at WVU.”
A son of a Pro Bowl linebacker, Timmons has been playing all over the field at positions like nickel, safety, cornerback and even some wide receiver in high school. As is common for young players, he’s still trying to figure out where he fits best.
If Timmons gets to a point where he garners attention as a recruit beyond just for his last name, it sounds as if he’s leaning West Virginia when it comes to any decision between the Backyard Brawl rivals.
โI really hope WVU shows some interest in me and if they give me an offer, that would be a dream come true, really. And same with Pitt, like I said before, like WVU, I feel like they show a little bit more interest,โ said Timmons.
