The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission announced postseason plans for fall sports on Thursday.

The state’s COVID metrics map will come into play as it has during regular season competition. Teams from orange or red counties on the weekly map update will not be allowed to compete in playoff games in volleyball, soccer or football. Schools in green, yellow or gold counties can participate in the postseason.

Cross County and soccer postseasons are scheduled to begin around West Virginia next week with sectional soccer game slated to start on Oct. 19 and cross country regional meets scheduled for Oct. 22

The WVSSAC also announced the minimum qualifications to the high school football playoffs this season. Teams will be required to have played at least four games to be eligible for the postseason in one of West Virginia’s three classifications. Teams that have not played a maximum of 10 games will be allowed to add games until Nov. 28 — the week of the state semifinals for playoff teams.
