WVU Football Adds More Depth for Secondary in Akron CB

The WVU football staff received another boost in their efforts to retool the defensive secondary. Akron transfer cornerback Devonte Golden-Nelson committed transfer to West Virginia on Thursday.

Golden-Nelson, 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, spent the past three years at Akron after starting his college career with two years at Memphis.

He recorded 66 tackles, 10 pass deflections and a pair of interceptions during his career with the Zips.

In 2024, Golden-Nelson totaled 33 tackles before entering the transfer portal on Dec. 17. He then received offers offer from West Virginia along with Houston, Oklahoma State and UNLV.

West Virginia hosted Golden-Nelson for an official visit on Jan. 7.
