For some future WV U football schedule news, the date of an early-season home game in 2027 has been moved.

West Virginia’s game against Ohio, originally scheduled for Sept. 18, will now be played on August 28th of that year. This now means WVU’s 2027 season will open with the game against Ohio in Week 0 and kickoff earlier than normal.

Prior to this change, the Mountaineers were slated to begin the season against Southern Miss on Sept. 4, play VMI the following week and finish the out of conference schedule with Ohio. As things currently stand, the 2027 schedule is the only one from recent memory or on the books for the future to not include a Power Four opponent outside of Big 12 play.

The Bobcats’ trip to Morgantown will be the second of a three-game contract announced in 2021. The third game of the series is slated for Sept. 1, 2029, in Morgantown.

Adding a sense of intrigue to a matchup with a Group of 5 school, Ohio defeated West Virginia 17-10 in Athens in 2025, handing Rich Rodriguez his first loss of his second tenure back as head coach.
