Geimere Latimer II Plays New Position in Old System | WVU Football All 105

Geimere Latimer II transferred from Jacksonville State to Wisconsin after head coach Rich Rodriguez hit the road for West Virginia. After a year with the Badgers, Latimer is back with his old head coach — as well as defensive coordinator Zac Alley — playing for the staff that started it all for him. 

While he’s listed at nickel safety on the Mountaineers’ roster, Latimer played cornerback at both Wisconsin and Jacksonville State. At 5-foot-9 and 188 pounds, he’ll likely fit best covering slot receivers when opposing teams line up in sets with three or more wide receivers. 

Some of West Virginia’s other nickel safeties began their football careers at linebacker or as traditional safeties, so Latimer’s own unique skill set could determine exactly when he gets on the field… but as a senior with experience under both Rodriguez and Alley, expect him to land atop the depth chart in his final season of college football.

Last Year: Latimer got used to Power Four football with the Wisconsin Badgers, playing in 12 games and making three starts.

Stats: 28 tackles (17 solo) and a forced fumble.

Post-Camp Outlook: Lattimer has the most experience of any player listed at nickel safety on the Mountaineers’ roster. A former Jacksonville State Gamecock, he also knows head coach Rich Rodriguez and defensive coordinator Zac Alley.

Projected Role: Expect Latimer to serve as WVU’s No. 1 nickel safety in 2026. His experience at cornerback — as opposed to some of the Mountaineers’ other nickel safeties, who specialized as middle linebackers or traditional safeties — could influence which subpackages he’s deployed in.

Accolades, Highlights: Latimer was a two-time All-State First-Team honoree in football-crazy Georgia, excelling on both sides of the line of scrimmage and winning a state championship.
