MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –  WVU Football spring practice is going mostly according to plan, but Neal Brown dropped his first piece of bad news while talking with the media after practice on Wednesday.

Brown said cornerback Jacolby Spells will miss the rest of spring and very likely even the start of fall camp with an upper body injury. While Brown did not go into any further detail on the type of injury Spells suffered, the timeframe offered suggests it is serious.

Brown added that he’s very disappointed for Spells and was expecting big things from the junior out Fort Lauderdale, Fla. After earning playing time as a freshman in 2022 and returning an interception for a touchdown in a win at Virginia Tech. Spell’s pick six in Blacksburg made him a fan favorite and increased expectations going into his sophomore season.

For whatever reason, Spells was not able to live up that hype in 2023, recording only eight total tackles after 13 in 2022.

WV Sports Now will provide more information on Spells’ condition as they come.
