Hosting a big rivalry game like the Backyard Brawl provides a priceless opportunity for the WVU football program to showcase itself to recruits. And as expected, Rich Rodriguez and his staff are taking full advantage of having the Backyard Brawl in Morgantown.

Below are just some of the notable prospects who will invited guests of the program on Saturday when West Virginia battles Pitt. It’s also important to recognize WVU and Pitt often compete for recruits, something that will continue on even as their matchup on the field takes a pause for a few years.

Justyn Lyles (2026 OL, OH)

Ohio offensive lineman Justyn Lyles committed to the WVU football program, announcing he picked West Virginia in June.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Lyles attends Withrow High School in Cincinnati as a 2026 recruit. He was offered by WVU offensive line coach Jack Bicknell in March.

Considered a three-star recruit, Lyles was also considering Miami (OH) and Tulsa in his final group. Heโ€™s expected to be an offensive tackle in college.

Jayden Alexander (2027 RB, Western Pennsylvania’s WPIAL)ย

Jaylon Jones (2026 FS/CB, CA)ย

Cameron Dwyer (2026 LB, FL)ย

Cameron Dwyer announced his commitment to the WVU football program in early April.

Dwyer, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound linebacker/safety from West Palm Beach, Fla., picked the Mountaineers over offers from East Carolina, FAU, JMU, Pitt, Tulane, USF, Wake Forest and several others.

247 Sports believes Dwyerโ€™s decision came down to moving up north to West Virginia or staying in Florida and attending USF.

Most recruiting outlets view Dwyer as more of a linebacker than safety at the college level, but West Virginia has created a hybrid role in the past for similar players. Rivals considers Dwyer a three-star prospect.

Dwyer experienced a full weekend official visit in June.

Dante Evans (2028 TE/DE, PA)ย

Landyn Moore (2027 OL, WV)ย

Jerome Larue Jr. (2028 LB, Western Pennsylvania’s WPIAL)ย
