WVU Football Target Amari Gainer Schedules Official Visit

Published

on

Florida State transfer linebacker Amari Grainer (6-foot-3, 225-pounds) scheduled an official visit with West Virginia for this weekend, Dec. 15 – 17. Grainer recently received an offer from West Virginia and an at-home visit from the school’s coaching staff.

Despite being limited in 2022 due to injury, Gainer was the active leader in career tackles at Florida State with 210 tackles in his five total seasons. He also has 19 tackles for loss, six sacks and five forced fumbles. He played in seven games this past season, making one start, and recorded 17 tackles and a sack.

Gainer officially announced his decision to enter the portal via Twitter early Monday afternoon.

β€œTo all my teammates, thanks for becoming my brothers and being what I needed while here at Florida State University,” Gainer said in his post. β€œTo the coaches/trainers that have helped develop me as a person and player, thank you. To my fans/supporters I want to thank you for your endless support. Now it’s time to do what’s best for my future and family. I will be entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer. God bless.”

Currently 13 players have entered the transfer portal for West Virginia, the second most in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma’s 14. On the positive side, this creates a lot of open spots for potential incoming transfers to improve upon last year’s 5-7 roster.
