In addition to his work with running backs, retaining Chad Scott also serves as a big benefit to the WVU football program recruiting wise. And to further West Virginia’s efforts in pursuing a four-star prospect, Scott was out on the trail over the weekend.

And on Monday, Damon Ferguson, a top 2026 athlete, posted about his time with Scott. “I appreciate Coach Chad Scott for stopping by and giving me as well as my mom and dad more information about,” said Ferguson on X (formerly Twitter).

Scott’s trip to Baltimore, Md. to strengthen his relationship with Ferguson came about 10 days after West Virginia re-offered the Milford Mill Academy product. The Mountaineers sent Ferguson a second offer to solidify their continued interest despite the transition from Neal Brown to Rich Rodriguez.

WVU first sent Ferguson an offer in September of 2024.

Just a few days before meeting with Scott, Ferguson sat down with legendary football coach Bill Belichick and heard his recruiting pitch for North Carolina.

Ferguson, who lists himself at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, is considered a cornerback by 247 Sports and just an athlete by most other national outlets. He became a first-team All-State player in 2024 for his work at both corner and running back.

“Coach Scott said he like the way I run the ball,” said Ferguson to say that WVU wants him as a running back.

He ranks as a four-star on ESPN and in 247 Sports’ composite rankings while just a three-star on Rivals. ESPN even places Ferguson as their No. 5 player in Maryland.

Arkansas, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Northwestern, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, UCF, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin are just some of the other major programs to offer Ferguson.
