WVU HC Neal Brown Announces Pair of Medical Redshirts

WVU HC Neal Brown announced during his press conference on Wednesday that LB Jairo Faverus and DL Maurice Hamilton will both be medically redshirted this upcoming season.

“I hate it for [Faverus], great guy. Really was a heavy special teams contributor but just had several injuries that set him back,” Brown said. “The other one that is taking a medical redshirt is Mo Hamilton, with some lower leg and back issues.”

“Those two guys are not on our active roster when you see that tomorrow. Just to update you on that,” he added.

Faverus has been with the program for four seasons, appearing in 21 games. Faverus took a redshirt during the 2021 year but saw the field more in 2022 and 2023, mostly on special teams.

Hamilton, 6-foot-3, is making the transition as an offensive lineman to the defensive side of the ball. Hamilton, a three-star prospect out of the 2022 class, has not seen the field for the Mountaineers yet.

West Virginia now sits at 85 scholarships for the upcoming season.

The WVU football program sent the below to WVSN to clarify the situations for both players.

“They (Jai Faverus and Maurice Hamilton) have been medically disqualified from participation in college athletics due to injuries.”
