It’s clear the WVU football program believes they can never have too many talented wide receivers. And this is for good reason after having to replace their entire receiver room from one season to the next. So despite already gaining commitments from a couple receivers and having offers out to others, Jabari Murphy remains a priority to the Mountaineers.

And most importantly, Murphy feels wanted by West Virginia too. He said as much in a recent conversation with WV Sports Now following his official visit.

“My visit to WVU was awesome, they really stood out more than any other because it just feels so different from others,” said Murphy. “I love how when I came to WV , EVERY single coach or staff member there, and even their players, treats me and my family like we were apart of their family. It was unbelievable.”

The family atmosphere at WVU and all that being a Mountaineer can mean for him throughout the rest of his life are helping to keep West Virginia as the front runner to land the class of 2024 three-star recruit from Alabama.

Listed at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Murphy, a junior at Elmore County High School in Eclectic, Alabama, placed WVU on his list of his top five schools on April 14. The Mountaineers are joined by Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Penn State.

WVU Has Been After Murphy for Awhile

West Virginia has been pursuing Murphy longer than most of their 2024 recruits. WVU sent him an offer on Oct. 22, 2022.

Prior to narrowing down his list of college programs, Murphy was also considering Arkansas and Maryland. He’s considered a three-star recruit by 247 Sports, Rivals and On3.com.

Murphy is ranked as the number 32 prospect in Alabama and the number 86 receiver in the country for his class by 247 Sports. Rivals has him as number 37 in the state and On3 has him at number 35.
