The Mountaineers increased interest in building a Florida recruiting pipeline of receivers continues to AnaTay Smith.

WV Sports Now caught up with the class of 2025 receiver from Lantana, Florida after WVU sent him his first Power 5 offer on Sunday. And in that conversation, Smith confirmed wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall is who he’s been speaking to the most at WVU.

Smith said Marshall told him that he loves his explosiveness and feel he can be a threat to stretch the field. Marshall’s influence now has West Virginia in play for a recruit who is mostly considering Florida based schools. Smith revealed that FAU is the program he’s been having the most communication with.

But what makes West Virginia a place the Santaluces High School product may want to move for his college home? Does he even know anything about the Mountain State or is just about joining up with his lead recruiter?

Why AnaTay Smith and WVU Make Sense

“Big 12 school, very good fan base, lots of south Florida players have gone there,” said Smith about his perception of the WVU program. So not only do the Mountaineers have a coach with Florida roots, but the history of quality players becoming stars in West Virginia is once again evident as helpful in recruiting a state widely regarded as a hotbed for high school athletes.

As far as what type of player WVU would be getting in Smith, he describes himself as having the whole package. “I’ve got the whole package. I can play both sides of the ball and will go 100% for four quarters,” he said.

It even sounds like the type of offense Smith prefers he could find in West Virginia. “I love an offense that is balanced that can use play action for an advantage to take shots down the field,” said Smith.
