A report from September has finally been confirmed as the Big 12 and Big East announced Monday afternoon that West Virginia will travel to play Georgetown in the 2020 Big 12-BIG EAST Battle.

It was reported in September that the Hoyas would be WVU’s opponent for the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle this season, but Monday’s announcement final confirms it. The announcement also solidifies the Mountaineers’ entire 2020-21 season schedule.

WVU will play at Capital One Arena in the nation’s capital on Dec. 6. This will be the 53rd meeting between the two teams, dating all the way back to 1922. The first meeting between the two old Big East rivals since Georgetown defeated WVU in the first round of the NIT in 2014.

In last season’s Big East/Big 12 Battle, the Mountaineers suffered their first loss of the season against St. John’s in Madison Square Garden. Georgetown defeated Oklahoma State 81-74 in its Big East/Big 12 Battle game last season. Georgetown finished last season with a 15-17 record, 5-13 in the Big East.
