Big 12 College Football Whip Around for Week 6

With West Virginia on a much-needed break this week, let’s take a look around the rest of the Big 12, a conference that may has displayed great parity among ranked teams this season.

TCU wins shootout over Kansas at the College GameDay location

To start, TCU won the biggest game of the day, and that’s big words on a Saturday that includes the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas. It’s true though, and was also the best game in the conference on the day, arguably in all of college football. Kansas and the Horned Frogs may not carry marque brands as far as college football goes (obviously the Jayhawks do in basketball), but they are the current classes if the conference so far.

This game was a solid showcase for the parity and future of the conference by hosting ESPN’s College GameDay. Commissioner Brett York talked about that very thing during an interview segment for the show.

Texas put it on Oklahoma

In a result not many people saw coming, Texas absolutely destroyed their historic arch rival that will join them in jumping to the SEC. Not much needs said here as far as recapping a 49-0 lashing. The Sooner already proved to be somewhat overrated prior to this game, but this result exposed so many bigger problems for OU moving forward. Oklahoma fans now have to endure something other fan bases have experienced before – watching the second half of a season while knowing your team doesn’t have anything of significance to even play for.

Does this result also now show Texas’ loss to Texas Tech was an aberration? Does it make any WVU fans feel better about a 38-20 loss to the Long Horns last Saturday night?

Oklahoma State eventually pulls away

Oklahoma State kept their playoff hopes alive by beating Texas Tech 41-31. This was a back and forth game that saw OSU eventually take over in the 4th quarter and prove too much. Mike Gundy’s team remains unbeaten at 5-0.

Kansas State wins ugly one

Number 20 Kansas State earned a 10-9 ugly win on the road at Iowa State to ensure they stay ranked.
