Bob Huggins Wins Lifetime Achievement Award, Hasn’t Ruled Out Return to Coaching

Bob Huggins hasn’t ruled out making a return to coaching, he said at the South Florida Basketball Association charity luncheon last week.

Huggins, 71, resigned from WVU in 2023 following a drunk driving arrest but isn’t quite ready to call his career finished for good, as reported by The Palm Beach Post.

“I want to be around good people. I want to be where you can help young people get better and reach their goals in life,” he said.

“In the right situation, of course. I don’t run out of energy, not for helping young people.”

Huggins was honored at the luncheon with the SFBA’s Lifetime Achievement award. Huggins amassed 935 victories in his career in time split between Walsh College, Akron, Cincinnati, Kansas State and his alma mater WVU.

Huggins was WVU’s head coach from 2007-23 and guided the Mountaineers to the 2010 Final Four and three Sweet 16 appearances after that. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022 and is one of only six Division I men’s basketball coaches to surpass 900 wins.

Since his resignation, Huggins has continued to host his annual Bob Huggins Fish Fry to support cancer research. The 13th annual Bob Huggins Fish Fry is set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 at the Hazel & J.W. Ruby Community Center Event Complex at Mylan Park in Morgantown.

WVU women’s basketball legend and WVU Sports Hall of Famer Meg Bulger will return as the event’s emcee. Former PGA Tour champion John Daly will headline as the event’s special guest.

The doors will open at 5:30 pm ET and individual and sponsor tickets are now available at BobHugginsFishFry.org. The Boston Beanery will cater the event.
