Morgantown, WV – Former Alabama linebacker VanDarius Cowan has officially transferred to West Virginia. The 6’4″ 236 pound linebacker was dismissed from the Crimson Tide for a “violation of team rules” in June and is getting his second chance with the Mountaineers.

Cowan was a former 4-star recruit and was rated the 216th best prospect in the ESPN 300 class of 2017. Cowan has the body type of a middle linebacker, but has the speed and quickness to play on the outside as well. There’s no question, he has the type of special talent that would allow him to start day one for Tony Gibson’s defense.

Holgorsen is starting to become the “Godfather of transfers” landing guys like Clint Trickett (Florida St), Will Grier (Florida), T.J. Simmons (Alabama), Jovani Haskins (Miami), Jack Allison (Miami), Kenny Bigelow (USC), Jabril Robinson (Clemson) and now the talented Cowan.

Cowan becomes the 2nd transfer from Alabama in as many years, joining wide receiver T.J. Simmons. He will have to sit out the 2018 season, but will have three years of eligibility remaining.
