MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – During his weekly press conference Tuesday, WVU Head Coach Neal Brown gave the media an update on the injured CJ Donaldson, who was helped off the field during the second half of the TCU matchup on Oct. 29.

Brown announced that Donaldson will miss the remainder of the 2022 football and his freshman season after the homecoming game injury. He did not go into detail about the injury. He left and returned earlier in the game before the second half exit.

“He will be out, he had surgery yesterday,” Brown said. “Not something that will keep him out a really long time, but he will miss the rest of the year.”

With 8:50 to go in the fourth quarter, Donaldson rushed for six yards before being piled on top of by Horned Frogs defenders, leaving him showing severe pain while lying on the turf. He was again taken to the medical tent by the West Virginia staff.

Despite missing time in the first half as well after a first injury, Donaldson ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries when he was out on the field, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Donaldson got the start with running back Tony Mathis out for the game. In seven games played this season, Donaldson has score 8 touchdowns for the Mountaineers.
