Things are beginning to settle in the upcoming coaching carousel as Indiana is set to bring back HC Mike Woodson next season, as reported by Zach Osterman of IndyStar. This move now leaves FAU’s Dusty May in question this offseason as he was the favorite for the IU job if Woodson was gone.

May has been linked to Indiana as he served as a manager under Bob Knight from 1996-2000.

May, who is in his sixth season at FAU, has emerged as the top coach from the mid-major level over the last calendar year. May coached the Owls to a Final Four appearance in 2023 and brought back his core for this season. FAU has been ranked for the majority of the season as they look to return to the NCAA Tournament.

May now has different options he can go with Woodson remaining at IU in 2024-25. May can either stay at Florida Atlantic with the culture he’s built as a top mid-major program in recent years or join a high-major and see what happens at Indiana in the future.

Currently, OSU and DePaul are the only two Power-6 programs that are officially looking for a head coach. West Virginia is unofficially on that list with interim HC Josh Eilert. WVU director of athletics Wren Baker will evaluate Eilert’s day-by-day job. WVU sits at 9-21 and it’s pretty clear that the athletic department will move in a different direction this month.

May has been linked with West Virginia and their eventual coaching search. WVU did not talk with May following Bob Huggins’ resignation last June. After a week of searching and pressure from players, West Virginia opted to go internally with Eilert for a season.

ESPN listed May as West Virginia’s top target recently.
