Chester Frazier Releases Heartfelt Message to WVU Fans About His Future
With Ross Hedge’s staff yet to be announced, Chester Frazier lets WVU fans know he will not be sticking around with the program. Frazier released a heartfelt message to West Virginia early Tuesday morning as a goodbye after only one lone year as a Mountaineer.
“What a year!!! Thought this was probably my most rewarding year as a coach. We got a lot out of this group and they gave us EVERYTHING they had!!!….. I had no doubt we built a resume that deserved to be in the field!!….. To the Mountaineer Fans – you guys are the best!!! Thanks for your undying loyalty and love for WVU!! You guys made my family feel welcomed and we will always be appreciative!! Wish we could’ve finished what we started, but I’m sure you guys will be great!!!
WITH LOVE, FRAZ,” said Frazier.

This letter by Frazier officially ends any hope that he would be retained as a member of Hodge’s staff. Many WVU fans voiced wanting Frazier to become the head coach after Darian DeVries departure.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Frazier spent three seasons at Illinois as an assistant coach. Before that, he was the associate head coach at Virginia Tech for two years. His first coaching gig was a seven-year run as an assistant coach at Kansas State under Bruce Weber.
Frazier is highly regarded as a recruiter, playing a big role in putting together WVUโs strong 2025 recruiting class, which has started to break up following DeVriesโs departure. Frazier has also always been around successful programs. In his 13-year career so far, teams heโs helped coach have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances โ WVU would have made it nine this season โ and won three conference championships.
