Only a few minutes after releasing a heartfelt goodbye letter to WVU fans, Chester Frazier cleared up something his supporters were concerned would happen. Frazier makes it clear he’s not going to reunite with Darian DeVries at Indiana.

So those WVU fans who want to continue rooting for Frazier, yet don’t want to see DeVries enjoy success with the Hoosiers, will be able to do so without worry.

“You should know me better than that,” responded Frazier when an Illinois fan asked if his exit from West Virginia meant he was headed to Indiana. Of course, Frazier made his name as an important member of a staff at Illinois, a Big Ten rival of Indiana, before he joined DeVries at WVU last year.

“What a year!!! Thought this was probably my most rewarding year as a coach. We got a lot out of this group and they gave us EVERYTHING they had!!!….. I had no doubt we built a resume that deserved to be in the field!!….. To the Mountaineer Fans – you guys are the best!!! Thanks for your undying loyalty and love for WVU!! You guys made my family feel welcomed and we will always be appreciative!! Wish we could’ve finished what we started, but I’m sure you guys will be great!!!

WITH LOVE, FRAZ,” said Frazier Tuesday morning.

A native of Baltimore, Md., Frazier spent three seasons at Illinois as an assistant coach. Before that, he was the associate head coach at Virginia Tech for two years. His first coaching gig was a seven-year run as an assistant coach at Kansas State under Bruce Weber.

Frazier is highly regarded as a recruiter, playing a big role in putting together WVUโ€™s strong 2025 recruiting class, which has started to break up following DeVriesโ€™s departure. Frazier has also always been around successful programs. In his 13-year career so far, teams heโ€™s helped coach have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances โ€” WVU would have made it nine this season โ€” and won three conference championships.

I’d say a smidge more relevant, in terms of why he’d scoff at coaching at Indiana, is that he’s an Illinois graduate who played all four years there and was the starting point guard for three years.
