Former WVU coach Jim Carlen listed as candidate on Hall of Fame ballot

Late Sunday night, the Associated Press released the names that will appear on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for the first time. If you look closely, you will find former Mountaineer head coach, Jim Carlen. Carlen coached the Mountaineers from 1966-1969 yielding a 25-13-3 record while at the helm before taking the head coaching job at Texas Tech.

Carlen also coached at South Carolina before calling it a career following the 1981 season.

He finished with a career record of 107-69-6 and a .604 win percentage.

In 1969, he led the Mountaineers to a 10-1 record and a Peach Bowl victory over South Carolina. The teams’ only loss that season came on the road at the hand of No.5 Penn State, who shutout West Virginia 20-0.

The 2019 class of the College Football Hall of Fame will be announced on January 7th, which is the day of this years National Championship Game.
