Lowe entered his name into the transfer portal in February after seeing limited playing time last season. Despite playing as a redshirt-freshman in 2019, Lowe will arrive at Southern Miss as a graduate transfer with three years of eligibility remaining.
Lowe attempted, and completed, four total passes at WVU, for only two yards. His largest chunk of playing time came last season against Oklahoma when he replaced starter Austin Kendall midway through the second half. Following that game, Lowe also started to see some use blocking for the punting unit on special teams.
The Warhawks went 7-6 last season, losing to Tulane in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. Their starting quarterback was then-junior Jack Abraham. Abraham threw for 3,496 yards with 19 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on a 67.9% completion percentage.
Lowe is the second quarterback to transfer out of WVU since the start of the 2019 season, joining Jack Allison who landed at West Liberty.
