“He’s got the Doege in him.” That’s what they are saying in the CFL about former Mountaineer Jarret Doege as he’s named the new starting quarterback of the Edmonton Elks.

Despite another loss for the Elks last week, Doege became the talk of Canadian Football League after completing one of the gutsiest touchdown passes any quarterback anywhere could put together. Doege avoided the pass rush and stayed up after being rocked by a defender. He then managed to get  the pass off that ended up going 85 yards for the score.

All of that has now earned Doege the job for Edmonton tonight. Doege was officially announced as the Elks’ new starter on Thursday and will lead his team against the also winless Ottawa Redblacks.

Overall in game, Doege threw for 163 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Despite the amazing play and solid day, Doege’s Elks team fell to the Toronto Argonauts 43-31. Doege now has a touchdown passes, but is still in search of his first win as a professional. Edmonton fell to 0-3 after loss.
