Joe Mazzulla, former WVU guard, was named a finalist for the NBA Coach of the Year award. Mazzulla is in his first season as the Boston Celtics head coach.

Mazzulla is joined by Mike Brown of the Sacramento Kings and Mark Daigneault of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mazzulla’s rookie season as head coach makes history, earning the second-highest win total for a first-year Celtics coach with 57 wins.

Mazzulla took over the reigns as head coach after Ime Udoka was suspended for the 2022-23 season. Mazzulla was eventually named full-time head coach in February after a good start. Mazzulla coached Team Giannis in the NBA All-Star Game as well.

Mazzulla will make his NBA coaching playoff debut this Saturday, facing the 7-seed of the play-in series.

Watch Mike Asti talk with a Celtics reporter on the impact Mazzulla has had on Boston below.
