Mountaineers in the Pros
List of Mountaineers to Become Super Bowl Champions
Winning a Super Bowl is something many kids dream about before even embarking on a career in football. It’s the pinnacle achievement for a player and his teammates. It’s something former Mountaineer Colton McKivitz can accomplish if his San Francisco 49ers can dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.
If McKivitz is fortunate enough to be on the winning side Sunday night and lift the Lombardi Trophy, he will become the 14th player who played college football at WVU to do so.
Here’s the current list of Mountaineers with at least one Super Bowl ring, a list that started with the most accomplished of all and a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Chuck Howley, Dallas Cowboys – Super Bowl VI (Howley owns the distinction as the only player to be named Super Bowl MVP in a losing effort)
Walt Easley, San Francisco 49ers – Super Bowl XVI
Jeff Hostetler, New York Giants – Super Bowl XXI, XXV (One as a starter and one as a backup, only WVU product with two rings)
Mike Fox, New York Giants – Super Bowl XXV
Alvoid Mays, Washington (then) Redskins – Super Bowl XVI
Mike Logan, Pittsburgh Steelers – Super Bowl XL
Kay-Jay Harris, New York Giants – Super Bowl XLII
Bruce Irvin, Seattle Seahawks – Super Bowl XLVIII
Wendell Smallwood, Philadelphia Eagles – Super Bowl LII
Shelton Gibson, Philadelphia Eagles – Super Bowl LII
