Marquel Blackwell’s relationship with top recruit goes back to his days @ Toledo

Almost a month ago to the day, class of 2019 cornerback La’Darius Henry (6’3″ 175 lbs) of St. Petersburg, Florida released his list of top ten schools, which included West Virginia. Coach Marquel Blackwell got right to work on the recruiting trail when he was hired by offering Henry shortly after his arrival to Morgantown. That previous relationship he had while at Toledo certainly carried over to West Virginia.

After speaking with Henry, you can see the mutual interest is there between he and the Mountaineer coaching staff.

“I have a great relationship with runningback coach Blackwell and defensive back coach Belk. West Virginia has a great tradition that I’d love to be a part of.” Henry said. “When Coach Blackwell was at Toledo, he offered me and then when he came to West Virginia he offered again. That showed me that he really believes in me. My relationship is good with both coaches.”

Henry is being recruited as a corner/free safety by West Virginia and could maybe even play the spur position once his body fills out. His aggressive style fits the characteristics of that position and is an all around solid cover man. Henry believes that the 3-3-5 defense will be a smooth transition from what he is in now.

“I feel really good about it,” Henry said. “I’ll get in the playbook, learn it and dominate.”

There is no timetable for Henry to make his college decision, but does have a future visit set up with West Virginia from July 27th-29th.
