Freshman quarterback Max Anderson hails from West Virginia’s eastern panhandle, making history as he led Spring Mills High School to their first-ever state championship appearance. Despite suffering a loss in the game, Anderson brought home Championship MVP honors and earned an offer from WVU Football soon thereafter.

Standing six feet tall and tipping the scale at 208 pounds, Anderson is a dual threat quarterback who threw for 16 touchdowns to just three interceptions as a senior. He also contributed on the defensive side of the ball and scored 11 rushing touchdowns, racking up an otherworldly 11.7 yards per carry.

Anderson’s versatility fits the prototype for a quarterback in a Rich Rodriguez-coached offense, even if it takes him a year or two to earn playing time.

Accolades, highlights: Beyond his success on the gridiron, Anderson helped lead Spring Mills to a West Virginia AAAA state championship in basketball, a testament to his athleticism and versatility. He also took snaps at linebacker during high school, but told West Virginia Sports Now that his recruiting discussions with the Mountaineers centered on playing quarterback.
