WVU Basketball guard Chance Moore

WVU Basketball brought in experience and offensive prowess with fifth-year guard Chance Moore. Now that Moore’s eligibility waiver has been approved, he has a chance to be a key piece for the Mountaineers.

Moore comes to WVU after a lone season for St. Bonaventure where he averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He also was 10th in the Atlantic 10 in rebounds.

Moore’s 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame helps when rebounding and scoring inside. That combined with his ability to knock down shots from three-point range make him an offensive threat anywhere in the half court.

From a ball-handling standpoint, Moore has seldom been a primary handler. However, he is perfectly capable of creating his own shots and making his way to the basket.

While he started every game for the Bonnies last season, many signs point to him being a bench player for WVU, including head coach Ross Hodge naming senior forward Brenen Lorient a probably starter. He knows how to make the most of his time on the court, as he was named to the MVC 2022-23 All-Bench Team as a reserve with 10.6 points per game for Missouri State.

On top of his accolades, Moore has experience making big plays in Morgantown. He was a part of the 2023 Missouri State team that lost 67-59 to the Josh Eilert-led Mountaineers. Moore tallied 24 points and eight rebounds.

Hodge highlighted Moore’s physicality and skill when he signed with the team in June.

“We are excited to have Chance join the WVU basketball program,” Hodge said in a release. “Chance has the ability, size and physicality to impact both sides of the ball and impact winning at a high level. He is a high character individual who will align closely with the values of WVU, the state of West Virginia and our basketball program.”
