Nick Saban Tells Pat McAfee His Honest Thoughts About State of WVU Program
Everyone knows Pat McAfee is a passionate Mountaineer, but people often forget Nick Saban is, too. Saban reminded McAfee whiling joining him on his show live from Dublin, Ireland to kickoff the 2024 college football season.
Saban made it clear he’s rooting for WVU and considers himself a proud Mountaineer from due to being a West Virginia native and having coaching in Morgantown as an assistant.
“West Virginia is about to run the table. Your thoughts as a West Virginia man,” asked McAfee. “Look, I’m a Mountaineer. That’s where I grew up. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the fact that you played there. I coached there. And I love my state,” responded Saban.

The seven-time national champion then brought the West Virginia love fest down for a moment before lifting it up once again. “But their program has not been able to sustain a kind of success that they’ve had in the past, and hopefully they’ll get back to having that kind of success again in the future.”
Saban even smirked at McAfee when adding “with your impact on Name, Image and Likeness (NIL).”
It’s been a big week of WVU comments out of the Pat McAfee Show in anticipation for the Mountaineers’ big season opening game against Penn State.
Leave it to Pat McAfee to turn up the dial on the atmosphere that will take over Morgantown for WVU’s season opener against Penn State. Not only will Morgantown experience the pageantry that comes with a national showcase game, but McAfee will host his show live on the WVU campus that weekend.

McAfee, and all of WVU talking crap and being disrespectful. Chanting F*** Penn State like a bunch of no-class losers. Well PSU came in and embarrassed you all on National TV. Now you can eat it. Enjoy the Karma.

WVU can talk all they want, but I think they found out where they stand in college football. Talking don’t get ya very far. PSU overall team speed is gonna give teams problems. The OL even looked big and quick. Enjoy your loss Pat and learn to quiet down.
