North Carolina QB Drake Maye to Declare for NFL Draft, Skip Bowl Game Against West Virginia

WVU’s opponent in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl will officially be without their star quarterback.

Drake May will declare for the upcoming NFL Draft and forgo the bowl game. This has been the expected situation since the end of the season, but the Action Network’s Brett McMurphy was able to confirm the news Monday evening.

May is considered one of top quarterback prospects in the draft. He threw for 3,608 yards, scored 33 combined touchdowns through the air and on the ground and threw nine interceptions during the 2023 regular season.

The Tar Heels were already planning to be without their best playmaker in wide receiver Tez Walker.

The Duke’s Mayo Bowl between WVU and North Carolina will kickoff at 5:30 pm ET on Dec. 27. Oddsmakers continue to view WVU as the favorite.
