Drake guards Atin Wright and Kevin Overton have both entered the transfer portal following West Virginia’s hiring of Darian DeVries.

Wright has one year of eligibility while Overton has three years left.

Wright (6-foot-1) averaged 14.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 35 games for the Bulldogs this past season. Wright was the second-leading scorer for Drake behind Tucker DeVries. Wright shot 46% from the field and 41% from three. The Lakewood, Ca. native scored 20 or more points nine times this season, capping off the year with a 20-point performance in the NCAA Tournament vs. Washington State.

Overton (6-foot-5) completed his first season with Drake being named to the Missouri Valley All-Freshman Team. Overton recorded 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 35 games. Overton shot 44% from the field and 35% from three. Overton’s season-high was 23 points vs. Murray State in February.

Update (1:11 PM) – Drake lost another guard in Conor Enright to the transfer portal, he tells The Portal Report.

West Virginia is expected to land Tucker DeVries, the son of head coach Darian. Tucker is the back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year with one year of eligibility remaining.

Drake finished with a 28-7 record this season, going 16-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference and then winning the MVC Tournament. Drake reached the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years under DeVries and fell to Washington State in the first round last week.

Drake had a top-45 offense in the country, averaging 80 points per game. The Bulldogs shot 37% from three as a team, which is 36th in the country. Drake allowed 70.4 points per contest this past season.

Darian DeVries leaves Drake with a 150-55 (73.2%) record over six years.

West Virginia currently has eight scholarship players on roster. The Mountaineers haven’t lost any players to the transfer portal as of the publishing of this story.
