Pat McAfee and Pat Narduzzi

Pat McAfee couldn’t help himself while talking to Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi during a special edition of his show inside Acrisure Stadium.

First, McAfee asked Narduzzi if he heard about last night, clearly referring to West Virginia’s dominating 71-49 win in the basketball version of the Backyard Brawl.

Narduzzi tried to play it cool and say that he’s only been focused on his team’s upcoming game with Notre Dame, a big matchup that earned the Panthers’ the right to host ESPN’s College GameDay.

The rest of the back and forth exchange can be found below:

McAfee: Did you hear about last night?

Narduzzi: No, I didnโ€™t. Iโ€™ve been locked in and focused.

McAfee: Oh, well, let me update you. West Virginiaโ€ฆguess what weโ€™re doing. Weโ€™re *smacking the table,* weโ€™re bopping. Weโ€™re a tough outfit.

*Mimics playing defense on Narduzzi.*

Narduzzi: Did Bob Huggins come back last night? I tell you this, itโ€™s about finishing. Itโ€™s not a one-game season. Itโ€™s about finishing. You can win a big game, but can you compete and do it week in and week out? Pitt does that.

McAfee: Alright. We beat you guys.

Narduzzi: No, you didnโ€™t beat us. We beat ourselves, but itโ€™s okay. Go put the tape on. Go put the video on. They donโ€™t call illegal procedures anymore.

McAfee’s Mountaineers beat Narduzzi’s Panthers 31-24 in overtime in the 2025 football Backyard Brawl in September thanks to a 10-point comeback.
